AN Nandi @40
Happenings in and around (in a nutshell)
Asha Niketan, Nandi Bazar
Every year, during March, April, May, the water table at Asha Niketan, Nandi Bazar goes way below. Our residents find it difficult to manage their daily necessities. Realising this, the Chairperson, Dr. U Sreedharan and Treasurer, Dr. Premanand invited a 'water diviner' or 'dowser' to check the landscape and find alternate water sources.
It was a clash between science and science fiction as to whether water could be found out by traditional methods. A supposed sixth sense enables the person to find underground water using a forked branch, pendulum or pair of bent wires.
Many hours and kms later, two places were marked. Judging by his remarks, it seems reliable enough. According to Popular Mechanics, Dec 2004, subtle electromagnetic gradients may result when natural fissures and water flows create changes in the electrical properties of rock and soil. Dowsers somehow sense these gradients and unconsciously respond by wagging their forked sticks, pendulums or bent wires.
Although we offered to pay for services rendered, he simply refused. We were also given tips on how to conserve water and recharge the existing bore well. In Kerala, we get approximately 3,000mm of rain, yet, we don't conserve even 10% of it. Thanks to the great man who took time off to be with us, opened our minds and refreshed our hearts with droplets of knowledge. We, at AN Nandi are deeply indebted and honored by your visit.
Thanks to Subin and Sebin for the snaps. Now, all we need is a donor to fund the Bore well.
