Happenings in and around (in a nutshell)
Listened to a beautiful presentation about life in L’Arche Croatia (Croatian: Hrvatska), a country situated in Central Europe. L'Arche Korablja Arka was founded in 2009. There are 14 persons with intellectual disabilities who participate in community activities plus three with multiple disabilities. Situated in Zagreb, the capital, the community is structured as a day centre. Slavenka, Valentina (core member) and Jasminka described their community in detail and their meetings at the bridge which link the community with other members of the society.
To make people with disabilities more visible to the society, an illustrated story book for children has been produced with the chief character being Vedranu. The story was conceived by one of the parents and illustrated by the community members. This will go a long way in making the society sensitive to people with disabilities.
Samples of Prsut (perchute), Seka (Kulinova) and cookies were distributed
We arrived at George Best Belfast City Airport at 1pm. We were welcomed by the Welcome team who then took us to the registration counter at the magnificent Queen's University. Our accommodation was at the spic and span Elms Village. The Opening Celebration started at 4.30 pm with a brilliant program. Congratulations to the organizers. With us for dinner were Claire and Christine from Belgium
